Whaaat? Now she’s really lost it.
I looove avocados. For a while I’ve wondered if they could be a substitute for butter with their rich, creamy taste. (any food nerds out there- the reason they are creamy as opposed to sweet is that most fruits store their energy as sugar, but avocados store it as fat). They really don’t have much of a flavor on their own- they kind of taste like whatever you mix with them. The “normal” thing to do is to make guacamole and make it savory/spicy. But I was curious to see if they would be good as a sweet treat too.
A lot of times I will use half an avocado at lunch, and then have the remaining half in the fridge. If you use avocados a lot you know that they get brown really fast. This is a good way to use the other half right away for dessert after lunch!
I won’t say it’s as good as regular chocolate desserts, but it is rich, creamy, and chocolatey. If you don’t like avocados, you probably won’t like this treat but if you love them like I do, go for it 🙂
As with many dips, sauces, nut butters, etc. I chose to eat this plain. But it would be good as a dip for Nilla Wafers, graham crackers, etc!
- 1 ripe avocado
- 2 T cocoa powder
- 3 T (or more if you like things really sweet) sugar
- 1/4 tsp vanilla
Smash everything together in a bowl and add more sugar/cocoa if you need it. Refrigerate for a little while- it is way better cold. It also seems to get sweeter if you make it in the morning, refrigerate it, and put it in the fridge until the evening.
